Onya Onya noh dai na

Taru narung ka riri rijanh mi tatte tai

Onya Onya where are you going

Onya Onya where are you going

I am going to pluck the tender bitter vines from the fencings of Taru land

Onya Onya is an extract from an old Apatani folk song, one that is slowly fading from our cultural memory.

A little girl child is referred to as Onya in Apatani. My mother is also called Onya by her friends, brothers and elders in the tribe.
